Young people feel strain when they"re unable to achieve the goals they: steps from mertans work, takes mertans theory and introduces economic strain, inability to achieve goals seek. Close to mertans idea of innovation: the removal or threat to remove positively valued stimuli. Getting dumped by a girlfriend or boyfriend. Leads to frustration or aggression causing delinquent behaviour: threaten or present with negative stimuli. Dumping something negative into a young person"s life. Kids involved with bullying have been bullied themselves. Males are more involved in street crime: how do males and females respond to strain, girls: depression, anger, guilt, shame = self-destructive behaviour. Girls blame themselves: boys: anger, blame others, lower levels of social control = violent behaviour. Boys have lower levels of social control which leads to crime: both genders deal with stress differently. Mostly there are supports in place like friends, family, teacher. Deal with stress by being a prosocial environment.
