O when youth were separated from adults (2 groups in society) Economy and society: how the economy was structured, how society was structured. Discovery of childhood in 1600s in europe: monks and elites were the only people who were educated in this period, young people are targets in education. Economy was shifting to cities in the mid-1800s: due to immigration, ireland and potatoes. Government would set people up with land. Especially in quebec: good land was hard to find, industrial revolution taking place in the usa before canada. Because canada was a colony, not a country: we were used as a resource for raw materials like fur, fish, wheat etc, they were processed in the uk. People were leaving rural areas to work in cities, immigrants were settling in cities because that"s where the employment was. Young people and women were working in factories.
