He also then owned the means of production (the weapon) and if men and women separated due to the climate, he would take with him his tools and the women would take household items. He could not give his own belongings at that time (because the kids belonged to the mom"s clan). As wealth increased for the man, the pairing family began to strengthen, and then the men began to strengthen. He wanted this matrilineal heritage to change wanted his children to get his belongings and descent from him. The monogamy is important here so men know that their kid is actually their child.
