SOAN 2120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Milgram Experiment, Scatter Plot, List Of Statistical Packages
Document Summary
The milgram experiment- the person asking questions shocks the person answering every time he answers wrong. The person who gets shocked screams (but they"re not real) and he asks to leave, and it tests how far the participant is willing to shock the other guy. 50% of the experimenters administered the highest shock. Categorical: no rank order, non numerical, ex. types of religion. Can be ranked from high to low, each category assigned a variable. 1)phd, 2) masters, 3) undergrad, 4) college, 5) high school. We treat them as quantitative as long is there is more than 4 categories. The relationship between two quantitative variable, look at how they correlate to each other. The higher the correlation the stronger the relationship ( the dots closer, and line steeper), the more confident we can be the relationship is true and significant. Computer statistical software programs generate significance test likelihood- probability. P value is basically how confident you are in your research.
