Characteristics of the quality: clear communication of research (change) goals between academic and community partners, provide meaningful research (well prepared and knowledge, appropriate methods: rigor and community engagement, significant results: impact on the field and the community, dissemination of knowledge to academic and community audiences, reflective critique: lessons learned to improve the scholarship and community engagement, self reflective community reflective. Closed settings: use people you know, find a gatekeeper (sponsor) within the organization, offer something in return, provide a clear explanation of your goal, be prepared to negotiate, be frank about the time needed.
