March 22, 2013 – Final Exam Information AND Lecture – SOC2111/2 Final Exam – Thursday, April 18, 2013 – 7:00PM – 9:00PM - 20% of grade - - could be from lectures, guest lectures, assigned readings and visuals - ill be based on the material covered in lecture and readings on the theorists and theories of Nightingale, Marx, Engels, Weber, Durkheim, Chicago School, Thomas, Addams, Symbolic Interactionism, Mead and Goffman - you may be asked to relate some of the above theorist’s ideas to earlier theorists or theories covered in the course at an earlier point - it’s out of 40 marks - Section A – Multiple Choice – 5 questions - Section B – Short Answer – 2 out of 4 questions – half to three quarters of a page o 10 marks each for a total of 20 - Section C – Short answer – 1 out of 2 questions o answer is worth 15 marks - Office Hours: o Posted on the newsfeed of courselink Society in ‘Man’ - These three are types of suicide - 1) egoistic – the product of relatively weak group integration; social cohesion in small o found in Modern societies where there is much emphasis on the individual o more individuality is expressed - suicide varies inversely with the degree of integration - 2) altruistic – very high degree of integration of the individual into society, or into the social group - 3) anomic – economic crisis or extreme prosperity o lack of regulation where societal rules have broken down o individual phenomenon whose causes are essent
