November 13, 2012 – SOAN 2120 - at least 3 references from academic journals o what are academic journal articles?  Need an abstract and a volume (and usually an issue) number o If you are unsure – go see David or Brad o How do you find them?  Uog website  Click library (under the search bar)  Then click journal articles (underneath find resources)  Scroll down this page then search  Click “W” then click go  Choose ‘web of science’  Log-in with your UoG login (if not already logged in) - Reference Format o ASA (American Sociological Association) format o Include the author’s name(s) and year of publication In brackets separated by a comma (Walters, 2006). o Avoid using direct quotes, but when direct quotes are used you must include the page number the author’s name and date (Walters, 2004a: 23) o Multiple references made in the same sentence are separated by semi colons o Examples  General reference…  However, there is an emerging view within the academic literature that evolving economy requires various types of highly educated workers, not just those with very specific technical skills (Axelrod, Anisef, and Lin, 2001; Davies and Walters, 2007; Finne, 2000; Giles and Drews, 2002; Krahn and Bowlby, 1999; Livingston, 1998).  Do the author listing alphabetically…  Specific references require a page number…  Still it has been argued that further research is needed before any definitive conclusions can be drawn (Walters, 2004a:23) o Referencing justifies that you’ve done a good amount of research –
