When we want to know we take random samples of people to find trends. There is no way you can speak to everyone but you take a certain sample. Sociologists identify general social patterns in the behaviour of particular individuals. Giving up the idea that human behaviour is simply a matter of what people decide to do: we learn how to do things. We are taught how to do things. We learn by watching others and doing what they do. Society has a huge impact on what we do and how we do it. Ex: checking social media to compare what we are doing with what others are doing. But what people show on facebook is not reality.
