For example, the immense pressures to excel in education, having strict curfews until they are married, and the discipline of listening to their father, as his word is law which can never be challenged. Overall, the 1st generation strives to push their children to be the perfect child by making them obey the directions of their parents until they are married off to a korean spouse. Due to the pressures of society and the pressures of their korean culture, the younger generation represented by their 3 daughters shows the difficulties within the balance of their. The daughters within this family immensely interact day-to-day with mainstream culture, assimilating into the norms of canadian society through the adaptation of dominant cultural patterns.
