Sentencing process where judges make reasoned decisions on how to punish criminals. The punishment of judges is based on the deal of the offence committed. Deterrence plays a key role in judicial sentencing, it simply refers to the idea that society can be protected from crime through the prevention of criminal acts. Selective incapacitation refers to the idea that individuals with lengthy criminal records should be removed from society for extended periods of time. Rehabilitation a rationale used by the courts to pass judgement on criminals. This approach is based on the idea that offenders can actually stand to gain incarcerated.
