Due process: all people should have rights and should be protected, even people accused of committing crime should have rights protected. Reason is to protect them from power of the state and to prevent wrongful convictions. Police is front line of justice system. For every 100,000 in population there are 194 police officers. White dominated, white males, minorities are underrepresented in policing. Issues: women and racial minorities, believed that women are not capable of being police officers since its seen that it"s a job that needs strength and believed that women don"t have that strength. Skepticism: visible minorities: distrust of police, don"t have good relationship with them and so don"t want to work as one, police lost trust in those communities, women. Proactive: discover crime on their own from doing their job, community policing is based on this. Reactive: respond to reports from the public, people call police, reporting crime.
