Medium types of deviance: theft (identity, property), assault (level 1), breaking and entering, possession, laundering, driving under the influence causing injury or death. Severe types of deviance: assault (level 2), murder (degrees 1, 2, 3), kidnapping, rape, sexual assault. Mala prohibita (controversy over whether or not they are actually crimes public opinion what the law defines as crime) Cultural: crime in different cultures can vary (i. e. women can be topless in some countries but not in another, alcohol is not consumed legally everywhere in the world) Historical: where the definition of crime and deviance can vary over time (i. e. cocaine in coca cola, heroine became illegal (was in cough syrup), prohibition) Gender: double standard b/w males and females (boys will be boys vs. that girl is physco in fighting)
