70 views3 pages

Document Summary

People are active in shaping their own world. Reality is developed thru interactions with others. We all have different interpretations = different term of reality. Blumer is really important, and outlined three things: How we take meaning to something depends on how we react, individual interpretations. We develop our meanings through interactions with other people. Meanings change and we are in uenced by different interactions. Deviant (anything against social norm) identities: primary deviance is the initial act, secondary deviance: they internalize the label and take it to the extreme. Two people may do the same thing but someone gets labeled over one and take the label for an extended amount of time. The downfall is that not everyone that is labeled, becomes who they are said to be. Not always a bad thing to be labeled. Believed that we in society are living within a false consciousness, being duped by capitalism. Wanted to replace this with class consciousness.
