Studying deviance requires you to move beyond your individual beliefs to analyze the broader social processes that occur in society whether or not those are correspond with your beliefs. Deviant deviating straying from an accepted norm to something abnormal, atypical, it involves violating norms that have been accepted in society, breaking the rules has a consequence. Deviance specialists analyze criminal or non-criminal forms of deviance: those who focus exclusively on criminal forms of deviance are criminologists. Objective views of deviance claim that the presence of certain characteristics defines deviance.
