Document Summary

Social rules and regulations are not a product of consensus and harmony they are the outcomes of conflict between the powerful and the powerless. Institutions (e. g. , government, police, etc. ) enforce these rules to benefit themselves and other powerful groups. Social order (society"s willingness to live a peaceful life) is only achieved through domination from our government: the powerful seek to have their interests protected by law and regulations, those who resist are criminalized and/or controlled. The economic elite (the bourgeoisie) create law to protect their personal interests and the capitalist system at large. The poor and marginalized (the proletariat) deviate and resist because of alienation and deprivation: the laws tend to oppress and control the lower classes, the wealthy are rarely criminalized. The protests at the g20 summit in toronto, 2010: anti-capitalist resistance the protestors sought to fight back against the capitalist system and the powerful people at the top of it.
