SOC 2700 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Differential Association, Social Learning Theory, Reinforcement
Document Summary
C. ray jeffery direct application of operant learning theories from psychology: ronald akers social learning theory it is an extension of differential association theory. Operant learning: skinner; psychology, concerned with the effect of individual"s behaviour has on environment and consequences of that effect on the individual, basic premise: reinforcement and punishment determine whether frequency of behaviour is increased or decreased. Learning occurs because of consequences associated with behaviour. Reward for good behaviour ie giving chocolate: negative reinforcement. Removal of a punishment ie grounded and then the grounding is lifted. Different from punishment: positive punishment reinforce positive behaviour via punishments for bad behaviour. Presence of a consequence (an averse stimuli) ie spanking, grounding, fine for speeding or parking illegally: negative punishment award is taken away. Removal of rewards that normally would have been present ie can"t go to the zoo, a cancelled birthday party, a cancelled vacation.
