Labelling theories has roots in symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interactionism society it given life and meaning through interactions of individuals: Key is shared meaning: it is a micro-level analysis it looks at small groups of individuals and their interactions with others, interpretations of social situations and behavioural negotiations with others, not just: stimulus response but is stimulus interpretation response.
