According to juristat (2012), most canadians were killed by someone they knew (usually an acquaintance/family member) Confrontational homicide: refer to homicides involving arguments, brawls and gang killings. Make up 1/3 of all homicides in canada and the united states. Sexual homicide occurs less often than many people think - but when it does, it is treated as a serious offence. Canadian centre for justice statistics defines sexual homicide as: homicide that occurs during the commission of a sexual crime. Criticized because this excludes many cases of sexual homicide that occur which may have been sexually motivated but did not involve an overt expression or evidence of sexual assault. Majority of victims of sexual homicide are female strangers or casual acquaintances of the offender. Exploring victim-offender relationships in homicide: the role of individual & event. Important to consider the relationship between victims and offenders in homicides. Previous research characterized victim-offender relationships as a dichotomy - a relationship between strangers or non-strangers.
