Document Summary
Two major approaches to the law: consensus: society is stable, popular until the 1950"s, people accept the law and those who enforce it. Society is well- integrated, if change occurs it is not due to revolution, it is very slow and orderly. People cooperate with each other: con ict: groups are in con ict with each other, people are contesting ideas of right and wrong. Post 1950. (i. e rights for sex workers, marijuana use, etc) certain groups win and certain groups lose. Talks about inequalities that occur in the law (i. e class, race, gender) What the legal world would have us believe about itself, is that it is impartial, neutral and objective system for resolving social con ict. Everyone should be on an equal playing eld. Everyone is subject to the law (no biases) The law is just treating everyone the same (i. e no wrongful convictions)
