Second part of the criminal justice system: when an individual is charged with an offence, final determination guilty/not guilty. Plea-bargaining, pre-trial detention, witnesses and evidence, juries, sentencing goals, restorative justice. Historical, sociological, and social-psychological aspects made within the courts: a lot of social-psych. Evaultation: midterm february 8th (30%, media paper march 22nd (35%) Watch videos in class, analyze and evaluate them. Not need to do any outside class research to write the paper. Only resources class material, videos, required readings: final exam april 20th (40%) Class discussions are taken word for word for midterms and final exams. Justice: evaluating out notions of justice, sociologically in particular. What is justice: fairness, equity, equality, the moral assessment of good and bad things, assig(cid:374)i(cid:374)g good a(cid:374)d (cid:271)ad to people"s (cid:271)eha(cid:448)ior, a(cid:272)ts, la(cid:449), de(cid:272)isio(cid:374)s, not always in terms of crime mostly general behavior. Distribution and retribution: often discussed philosophically. Allocating resources to citizens in a community, society, country: equality.
