Document Summary
What is community policing? that strong interpersonal relations between the officers and the community benefit everybody. The emphasis is on police and community interaction. We are trying to create police & community partnerships so that the community feels as if they have a part. What you essentially want to do is level the hierarchy, if you want to improve relationships they have to look approachable. Decentralize so that you can embed your officers and creating repour with the public which you cant due if they are in their cruiser all the time. If they have community trust and good public relations, they will be a better force. There was much crime because of deindustrialization and racial tensions. Hiring more officers was not working so we began to develop community relations. We started to have centralized community policing units. Community policing does not work across all geographic locations.
