If purity is a commodity that can be bought and sold, then it has to be marketed. Pop stars wearing purity rings only goes part of the way. Women are taught to be pure, but at the same time sexualized in pop culture and the media- they are given mutually exclusive goals, and expected to achieve the impossible synthesis of the two. Women should be both sexy and virginal. Embodying both of these extremes is a key measure for a woman"s success.
