Would you act more altruisically towards mother"s sister"s cousin or father"s brother"s cousin: hamilton"s rule predicts that you would show similar altruisic behaviours towards cousins on either side of your family. Observaion: in many species, paternity is oten uncertain (females choose extra-pair partners, males increase reproducive success by extra-pair maing. Hypothesis: individuals should regulate cousin directed altruism in response to sex diferences in paternity uncertainty. Predicions: fa-bro < mo-bro = fa-sis < mo-sis. Fitness: number of genes contributed to the next generaion by an individual (# of surviving individuals) Indirect itness: via helping non-descent kin (addiional individuals gained through helping) Inclusive itness: sum of direct and indirect. Cooperaive breeding and inclusive itness r x b c > 0: when to help? (>0, when to raise own ofspring? (<0, c = number of young not raised by yourself given helping behaviour (ex.
