o982 o Cell elongation continues Daughter nuclei appear at 2 poles of cell as nuclear envelopes form around chromosomes Reverse of prophase – chromatin fibre of each chromosome uncoils, mitotic spindle disappears Mitosis is now complete Cytokinesis Division of the cytoplasm, occurs along with telophase 2 daughter cells become completely separate Cleavage furrow forms and cell pinches into 2 Cytokinesis differs for plant and animal cells  Cytokinesis = division of cytoplasm into 2 cells, begins during telophase Animal cells: Occurs by a process known as cleavage Cleavage furrow appears = shallow indentation in cell surface Cytoplasm has a ring of microfilaments (made of actin) Actin microfilaments interact with myosin, the ring contracts inwards & pinches shut Cleavage furrow deepens and pinches the parent cell in 2 Plant cells: Membranous vesicles containing cell wall material collect at the middle of the parent cell Vesicles fuse and form a membranous disc = cell plate Cell plate grows outward, accumulating more cell wall materials Membrane of cell plate fuses with plasma membrane, cell plate’s contents join parental cell wall Results in 2 daughter cells each bounded by its own plasma membrane and cell wall Cytokinesis doe
