Cells respond differently bc they have different repertoire of receptors. By studying the mechanisms of cell signaling, we can understand the basis of many diseases and develop new strategies for therapy. Cells need to know if they need to divide or differentiate, or die; cells are not doing this unilaterally, they are reliant on the signals they are getting form their environment.
