Walking activity-eyes are open and unfocused with arms or legs moving. Sleeping-being still and breathing regularly or mobbing gently and breathing irregularly. 2-3 hrs each day with 3 distinct cries: Basic cry-softly becoming more intense when baby is hungry or tired. Pain cry-sudden long burst of cry followed by long pause and gasping. 16-18 hrs a day-the sleep wake cycle of sleeping 3 hrs and waking for an hour slowly turns to the day-night cycle. Half of a baby"s sleep is rem-rapid eye movement sleep, when the body is quite active, heart beat is rapid. Regular (non rem) sleep-breathing, heart rate and brain activity are all steady. Babies tend to sleep through the night between 3-4 months. Baby dies suddenly, usually while sleeping for no reason.
