Document Summary

Study of the distribution of organisms at varying spatial and temporal scales, as well as the the processes that produce these distribution patterns. Ecological biogeography - concerned with how the distribution patterns of organisms are affected by their physical and biological environment. Historical biogeography - concerned with how the distribution patterns of organisms arise over time and space (e. g. , evolution, extinction, dispersal, etc. ) Ecosystem - group of organisms and the environment in which they interact. The food web - organization of an ecosystem into levels through which energy flows. Use light to convert co2 and water into carbohydrates (ch2o)n = photosynthesis. Opposite to photosynthesis is respiration where carbohydrates are combined with oxygen to produce energy for the organisms plus co2 and water. 1 consumers eat primary producers (e. g. , insects, deer) 2 consumers eat primary consumers (e. g. , small birds, larger insects, fish) 3 consumers eat primary consumers (e. g. , bears, hawks)
