KIN 2320 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Fibroblast, Adipose Tissue, Ligamenta Flava
Document Summary
Anatomy -the science or study of body structure. Understanding the structure as it relates to function. Divisions of anatomy (p. 2-4): macroscopic (gross): unaided eye, surface anatomy: the study of surface landmarks, microscopic anatomy: - histology. Basis for pathology and forensic medicine: embryology: developmental anatomy, neurosciences: - neuroanatomy. Study of the central and peripheral nervous system. In order to standardize communication between anatomists across the world a standard point of reference was established. The anatomical position is one in which a person stands erect with arms at the sides and palms facing forward. From this position the following directional terms are universally used: Close to the surface generally visible under the skin. Away from the surface generally not visible under the skin. Planes are imaginary two dimensional surfaces used to provide orientation when you are observing the body as a whole or its parts.
