If you are looking straight ahead visual information on your left side is sent to the right hemisphere of your brain and visual information on your right side is sent to the left hemisphere of your brain. With a split brain patient, can show one side of the brain a visual image without showing the other side. Levy, trevarthen, sperry (1972): presented photos of faces with each half of the image from a different face. Split brain patients stared in the middle of a screen, when flashed, each half-face was sent to the opposite hemisphere. When asked to describe the face verbally, patients describes the face to the right (one processed by the left brain) When asked to identify the face they saw by pointing with their left hand, patients pointed to the face on the left (one processed by the right brain which controls the left hand) Patients were not aware of anything unusual about the pictures.
