Affixes: prefix: before the stem, suffix: after the stem, infix: middle of the stem, circumfix: occurs both initially and finally, wrapping around the stem. Ex) prefixes in isthmus zapotec in mexico: zigi = chin, kazigi = chins, zike = shoulder, kazike = shoulders, ka functions as a plural. Ex) suffixes in turkish: dur = to stop, durak = stopping place, you derive a noun from a verb with the suffix -ak. Ex) infixes in bontoc: fikas = strong, fumikas = to be strong, kilad = red, kumilad = to be red, absofuckinlutely, how infixes are used in english. Ex) circumfixes in chickasaw: chokma ="he is good" Ikchokmo = "he isn"t good: delete final vowel in declarative form, add negative suffix. The "huckles" problem: strawberry, cranberry, huckleberry, boysenberry, gooseberry, blackberry, "berry, can stand alone, has meaning on its own. It is becoming a separate morpheme with its own meaning.
