Open: higher risk of infecion, can be traumaic or secondary to disease (cancer or osteo) Bleeding: creates hematoma at fracture which turns into clot in 72 hours. Deformity: abnormal posiion allows muscle to pull fragments. Edema: penetraion of bone through skin/sot issue, bleeding into surrounding skin. Ecchymosis: discoloraion from extravasaion of blood in subcutaneous issue, may appear immediately. Neurovascular assessment: color, temp, cap reill, peripheral pulses, edema, sensaion, motor funcion, pain. 5 p"s: pain, pulse (distal to injury), pallor, paresthesia (feeling), paralysis (movement) Pain scale, neurovascular status (with 5 p"s), ice, elevate. Splints, casts, external ixaion and tracion to immobilize joint.
