PHIL 2750 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Anathema
Document Summary
Avoid mistaking conlicts of prioriies for conlict of values. Strongest objecions are the ones that are done right away. Avoid thinking about it because then your objecion is weaker. Everyone can value elephants in the same way. We can value them and preserve them in their natural habitat. Maybe the people living next to them have a cost (ex: elephants kill people someimes). You can both think elephants have value, yet we have a diference of priority. Maybe they will shoot them to save their lives. We both have the same values, but diferent prioriies due to circumstances and costs to one and not another. * while we agree at the level of value, we can disagree at the level of priority interests vs. posiions what beneits can accrue if we reach agreement. Once we realize it is a conlict in prioriies (not values), we can come to an agreement.
