Microgenetic study children are tested repeatedly over a span of days or weeks. Studying/watching progression on anticipation to be able to see the time it was taken place, a lot of obstruction. Cross sectional designs different age groups are tested at one time. Fast, collect a lot of information in short amount of time. Problem cohort effect there might be broader gaps, they grew up in different time causing cohort, world may change on those years. Longitudinal designs the same group of people are tested over time. Lose some kids; some may drop out of the study, unable to continue, start of a big group so you end with a big enough group on the end. Sequential designs different age groups are tested over time. Helps determine if developmental changes and milestones are universal. Helps find the critical factors that account for cultural differences. Children 7 and older must also give their consent.
