Document Summary

Understanding research results : describing variables and relationships. Used to make inferences basis of sample data, abt a population. Whenever a variable is studied there is an operational defn of the variable and there must be 2 or more levels of the variable. Levels of variable can be described by any one : nominal, ordinal, interval or ratio. The levels of nominal scale variables have no numerical, quantitative prop. Variables using an ordinal scale rank order the levels from lowest to highest, but the intervals btwn each rank order are not equal. With an interval scale, the intervals btwn are equal in size. Ratio scales have equal intervals + zero point. It is sometimes diff to know whether it is ordinal or interval. An imp implication of interval and ratio scales is that data can be summarized using the mean, or arithmetic avg. Most research focuses on study of reln btwn variables.
