PSYC 2290 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Amniotic Sac, Umbilical Cord, Amniotic Fluid
Document Summary
Chapter 3: prenatal development, birth and the newborn. Parental development: gestation occurs over 265 days or 38 weeks (2 weeks early to 2 weeks late) Begins with conception and ends with implantation 7th-9th day. If any harmful agents occur in the germinal stage, the mass of cell will not attach to the uterine wall. 2 weeks to 2 months: great deal of vulnerability start to get differentiation of cells (form the ns, internal organs, bones etc. ) but if harmful agents come in it will mess with the foundation. Amniotic sac: inner part of the trophoblast will turn into the amniotic sac, protective sac. Amniotic fluid: what fills the amniotic sac. Chorion: the outer membrane, attaching to the uterine wall, and turns into the placenta. Umbilical cord: begins small and short but by the time the baby is grown can be up to 3ft long.
