Document Summary
Psych 2440 behavior modification principles lecture 3 - chapter 3. Chapter 3 respondent (classical, pavlovian) conditioning of reflexive behavior. Are essentially ways of manipulating stimuli in order to influence behavior. Principles are procedures that have a consistent effect and are so simple that they cannot be broken down into simpler procedures. Respondent behaviors: reflexive, elicited by prior stimuli and are not affected by their consequences. Examples: salivating when you smell dinner, becoming aroused when watching. X-rated movies: influenced by respondent conditioning which is based on unconditioned reflexes. Unconditioned reflex: a stimulus-response relationship in which a stimulus automatically elicits a response apart from any prior learning, are hard-wired or inborn, consists of us and ur, unconditioned stimulus (us) A stimulus that elicits a response without prior learning or conditioning: unconditioned response (ur) Response elicited by the us: neutral stimulus (ns) Does not elicit an unconditioned response however.
