ACB 406.3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Pancreatic Duct, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Centroacinar Cell
Document Summary
Pancreas has two parts: exocrine part = arises as an outgrowth of the primitive foregut, secretions drain into the main pancreatic duct, endocrine part = islet of langerhans. Acini and ducts are organized like a bunch of grapes: acinar cells = synthesize enzymes (proteases, amylases, lipases, duct cells = secrete bicarbonate. The pancreas is like a bunch of grapes. Surrounding the whole bunch of grapes is a thin ct capsule. Between each cluster would be septa of ct. The ct is also abundant around the ducts within the gland and between the lobes. Zymogen granules intercalated duct intralobular ducts interlobular ducts join to form the muscular pancreatic duct. Interlobular ducts are surrounded by a thick layer of ct in the septum. The islets of langerhans are the clear areas. Zymogen granules are stained red: the basophilic cytoplasm around the nucleus in the base of each acinar cell is rich in rough endoplasmic reticulum.
