Canid= dog!
Canine= anything like a dog, coyotes !

Order Carnivora !
Although dogs are primarily meat eating, they will eat some plant material!
Can get plant material through eating preys stomach or just eating plants!
Cats are strictly carnivores!

At least 83 species of canids!
Some extinct- especially the very large ones!

Big change in carnivory !
Moved from the amount of meat they ate!
Tooth structure may have changed!

Did so well because of bone cracking by teeth!
caninae is the only one still living!
Originally we had big caninae creatures, did not originally have useful movement of the paws!
Change in use of digits and number of digits changed over time!
Older ones may have not had the best tooth structure for Bon cracking( ones that are not living
anymore)!

Dusicyon !3.
Bulk of canidae fall in these generas !

Oldest branch!
Grey fox ( southern north America and South America)!
Bushy tail!
Back hair is not as thick of a coat because of warmer climate!
Island fox ( channel island of California)!

Island gray fox!
Swift fox!
