concentrated urine leads to kidney problems in dogs and cats!•
& death on plants ( owners must choose between grass or bushes......female for male dogs)!•
cats always try to bury so likely in flow beds, if outside!•
heated water bowls or buckets needed for outdoor dogs in this climate!•

exercise!
extreme exercise is very hard on longterm health!•
how much is enough exercise?!
very small dogs and very large dogs have metabolic rate/ activities that may require less •
exercise!
interest in exercise/ interesting exercise?!•

monitor Body temperature!
normal body temperature is 39 degrees in dogs and 38.5 in cats!•
fever is a cause for concern!•
mercury rectal thermometer was typical!•
new digital thermometers are quicker!•
held under ear flap of dog? is possible to get accurate temperature!•

First aid!
some essentials should be handy for emergencies!•
which, depends on the situations your dog encounters!•
!
Field dressings!
bad cuts may need bandaging before stitches!•
barb wire, old farm implement pieces, broken bottle!•
!
Cleaning wounds!
minor cuts should be "cleaned"!•
cut long hair away near cut so it can't enter wound!•
soak in warm water with epsom salts to "draw out" infection, dirt, ect.!•
a plastic bag held up and over a cut leg can be useful!•
!
over-the-counter meds!
dosage should be cautious ( consider the weight difference of a human and dog)!•
examples:!•
pep-dismal for GI upset & diarrhea!◦
Benadryl for insect bite hypersensitivity, aching!◦
aspirin for pain!◦
tylenol for pain (NOT in cats)!◦
neosporing for cuts ( dogs & cats lick though)!◦
DO NOT USE:!•
advil ( ibuprofen)- causes stomach ulcers & renal failure!◦
aleve ( naproxen)!◦
vision- some ingredients may have toxic side effects!◦
kaopectate- make diarrhea worse!◦
