Cholera: bacterial infection, excessive loss of water, electrolytes (mainly na + k, life-threatening condition. Psychogenic diarrhea: caused by psychological stress, excessive stimulation of parasympathetic nervous system. Simple diarrhea: stools contain normal excretions with exception that there is more water (over 3 4) proportion. Membranous diarrhea: diarrhea with passage of intestinal mucosal cells (inner membrane of intestines) can be sign of infection. Travelers" diarrhea: usually results from eating unaccustomed food. Where does the gas come from: swallowed air, result of bacterial action in digestive system 3) diffusion from blood (not a big component) Stomach: nitrogen and oxygen, most of it comes from swallowed air or certain types of beverages (carbonated, exits the same way it came in (belching - eructation) Small amount of gas present: movement from stomach. Large intestine: comes from bacterial action, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and methane, mixing hydrogen and methane with oxygen: colon rupture (explosive mixture)
