Document Summary

A crew of a yacht was castaway in a storm, compelled to leave yacht and move into lifeboat. Crew consisted of 3 able bodied sea men, (dudley, stephens and brooks) and a boy (parker, 17 or 18 years old) 7 more days without food, 5 days without water, dudley and stephens proposed to sacrifice an individual for survival, brooks disagreed, boy was not consulted. Eventually, the men decided they had families to support and that the boy did not have a family to support so he would be sacrificed, brooks went to sleep, the men fed on the boy for 4 days. A boat found the 3 men, saved them, Fact: boy would"ve died anyways being in a weakened state. Fact: all would"ve died if they had not fed on the boy. Legally they dudley and stephens were found guilty.
