Fibrous rings (skeleton) function as electrical insulator, preventing the propagation of electrical impulse from atria to ventricles through contractile myocytes. Pacemaker & conducting systems: 2 basic sets of intrinsic pacemaker tissue in heart, conduction of impulses from sa to left atrium.
