Document Summary

Causal attribution: answering the why question self-serving attributions. o o o o. A departure from the actor/observer bias happens when peoples self esteem is threatened. The tendency is to make self serving attributions: (a) to take credit for ones own successes by making internal attributions (b) to blame others or the situation for ones own failures. Another attribution we make is when our self esteem is threatened. We make a defensive attribution to help us avoid feelings of vulnerability. To maintain motivation to plan ahead for the future. By believing that our long term efforts will be rewarded, and assure ourselves that bad things will not randomly happen to us. Consequences of just world beliefs: blaming the victims. In several studies it was shown that people carried the belief and that the victim has somehow brought on the event.
