SLSC 398 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Quorum Sensing, Gram-Negative Bacteria, Gram-Positive Bacteria
Document Summary
Liegib"s law: most limiting nutrients determines growth rate and biomass. Things that run out quickly are rare nutrients, vitamins, soil depth oxygen. Shelford"s law: limits to growth and location set by abiotic parameters. Under certain conditions will determine what genus is active. Quorum sensing - how molecules are able to change as a whole group. You can stimulate growth so they are all active or it can show that nutrients are running out and there is a decrease in growth. Gram negative - auto-inducers, cells that receive this signal active dna transcription. One a signal molecule is outside of the cell the more confusion there is the more other cells will pick it up. The molecules are synthesized by bacteria, and they all are similar so many di erent molecules can respond to di erent communication signals.
