SLSC 398 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Arthrobacter, Plasmid, Bdellovibrio
Document Summary
The cell wall determine the interactions with the environment. Fold of protein in the membrane provides more surface area and allows it to function much faster. The middle of the capsule represents the cell wall ( the circle represents the dna material ) , around the capsule is the peptidoglycan which cells secrete a lot in the environment because: Allows cells to stick together so they can form colonies. Allows cells to attach to surfaces ( silt or sand ) Barrier to protests that will ingest the bacteria. This makes it di cult because the capsule isn"t recognized as bacteria it is a mucus. There are regular dry periods, the capsule functions as a sponge. When it is wet it holds allow of water and when it is dry it takes a long time to dry out so the bacteria are always in a wet environment. It forms a sticky substance that keeps all the material together.
