Known, demonstrable genealogical relationship to apical ancestor. Genealogical links to distant apical ancestors not speci ed. Includes all of the descent from a common ancestor. More dif cult to separate and distinguish between lineages because they are all related. Most commonly found among tribes in greece. The two groups are part of the same phratry, but they maintain their autonomy and distinction. They each have their own individuality, yet function together as a whole. Most common in societies with small populations. Used to be a basic measurement to determine citizenship. Intermarriage between phratries is to be arranged by other members of the phratries. Coexists with only on other descent group in society. An individual belongs to the moiety by birth.
