Mircocultures
- Class, race, ethnicity, gender, age

Hierarchy, power, inequality
Social Groups: related on a basis other than kinship
- Primary social group: interaction between members
Sorority groups
- Secondary social group: may never meet, but have common identification
A nation
Status
- a person’s position in society
- Each status comes with a “script” ( a role) for how to behave, look, consume
- Societies vary in how many status positions exist
Race
- Recent form of social inequality
- Unequal meeting of two formerly separate groups through colonization
Civil Society
- Diverse interest groups that operate outside the government that organizes aspects of life
- Varies in terms of how free from government they actually are
