Document Summary
Primates have hair, they give birth to live young, some mammals still lay eggs and mammals nurse their young. Dermoptera, scandentia are closest related species to humans other then primates. *primates are very tricky to define, some of their features are very generalized* All primates have a generalized skeletal structure. We have a derived set of bones. *a lot of primates have an erect structure when resting* Humans and apes have precision grip, humans have power grip. All primates have super sensitive finger tips: enhanced touch, humans are very good at manipulating things, humans do not have claws, we have nails, we have incisors, canines, premolars, molars. Reduced smell: reduced snout = sense of smell is reduced, humans have good sense of vision. Incidents of colour blindness in humans and primates. Primates have a large brain relative to their body size. Compared with other mammals, primates have: longer periods of growth, longer lifespan, very slow reproductive rate.
