ARBUS300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Business Casual, Performance Appraisal
Document Summary
Self-awareness, equilibrium: in order to persuade others. Business skills: resume, cover letters have to accompany a resume. Interviews: special conversations, not just for jobs, at least one party has a predetermined goal, not a dialogue. Performance appraisal inform employee of goals or assess their efforts. Discipline out of line, reminder of expectations: not a conversation, being told to change. Survey or research generalized accounts, an idea of the employees perspective. Diagnostic used by lawyers and physicians. Open or closed question: secondary questions are follow ups to the primary questions, open: no predetermined answer, closed: expecting a certain answer. Don"t get cornered in closed question, change the subject. Hypothetical or actual: if you are confused/anxious, what would you have done differently, how would you respond. Leading: predetermined outcome, that forces you to take a side, try to be evasive , do not hesitate. Done through informal channels far more than advertising: personal contacts, referrals, networking.
