BIOL302 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Parietal Cell, Serous Membrane, Enterocyte
Document Summary
Large intestine (2 organs: function: water absorption. Mucosa: stratified squamous, lamina propria, loose ct. Inner circular: outer longi, skeletal, 4 organs: cardia, fundus, corpus, pylorus. Stomach: epithelium = simple columnar, has huge = longitudinal folds, mucosa has glands & extra-innermost layer in muscularis externa = oblique. Fundus & corpus: shallow gastric pits, tall glands. Mucosal glands: gastric pits leading into gastric glands which have 2 types of special cells. Parietal cells: hcl, large and lighter than chief cells. Chief cells: pepsinogen, basal nucleus, dark granules. Small intestine: function: speciailized cells for absorption (increase in sa, folds = plicae circulares. Includes mucosa and submucosa: base we have crypts, mucosa, mucosa = villi, epithelium = microvilli. Villus: simple columnar epithelium, enterocytes = absorption, goblet cells = lubrication, paneth cells = antimicrobial. Lamina propria: loose ct, blood supply, lymph vessels = lacteals (lipid absorbing) Muscular mucosa: at the base, these are glands, paneth cells here too, right underneath.
